Mercerized Cotton Fabric
A mercerized cotton fabric is a fabric that usually had gone through several processes. This is also referred to in the pearl cotton or pearl. This is even a fabric or cotton yarn that usually goes through a process to further increase the luster. This is also desirable as it handles water completely.

In the year of 1890, Lowe was then granted with a British patent whereas he claimed that the application of caustic soda under such a tension will result to a light reflection of a round and smooth surface. It was indeed such an overnight success and it started the revolution of the cotton industry.
Twist and Absorbancy
To be able to gain the luster, a mercerizing treatment must be applied evenly while the fabric or yarn is still under tension. Cotton that is mercerized in such a relaxed state will never ever gain a luster.
